Audra McDonald's talent is unparalleled in the range and variety of her work as a vocalist, and performer. She was the recipient of an unprecedented six Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. Her name was also cited as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people, and she was also awarded with the National Medal of Arts - the highest honor for artistic achievement in America for artistic achievement and achievement - by the president Barack Obama. A luminous soprano and an incomparable gift of telling the truth in a dramatic manner her voice is at home in Broadway and on the opera scene as she is in her role in television and film. As well as her stage work, she is also a prominent performer as a recording performer who regularly appears at top venues around the globe. Born into a musical family McDonald lived in Fresno California and received her classical training in New York's Juilliard School. In 1994, just a few years following her graduation from Juilliard School, McDonald was awarded the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress Musical" for Carousel. The next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance on The Broadway productions Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the show Ragtime (1998) giving her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of thirty. She was awarded his fourth Tony in 2004, starring alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun as well as at the end of 2012. In 2012, she won five Tonys, and the first time in the category of leading actress for her performance on stage in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess in the lead role. In 2014, the Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she performed on stage in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. It is the same role she played during her performance in 2017's West End London debut for which she was considered for nomination to an Olivier Award. McDonald has also been featured for theatre shows, including The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) Twelfth Nigh (2009); it also was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along Or the Making of the Musical Sense in 1921 and All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald was first introduced to the TV audience as a dramatic actor in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say the Delany Sisters first 100 years. The next time she appeared on television was that of a character actor in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit where she starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald, who was awarded the Emmy Award nomination back in 1999 for her performance on the HBO remake of the Pulitzer Prize-winning film Wit directed and starring Emma Thompson, made her return with the company in 2003 for the political drama Mister Sterling. The film was produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. In 2006, McDonald appeared on WB's The Bedford Diaries. The following year, she became an actor who appeared on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill, which aired on HBO in 2016. McDonald starred along with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. She first appeared on the show as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in the year 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised her character (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ with three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. Presently, she is appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which premieres on HBO.
